A GARDEN-STYLE “headquarters yard” has broken ground at Jiuwei International Headquarters Area (Jiuwei area) at Hangcheng Subdistrict in Bao’an District, ready to usher in leading global companies and international organizations.

A promotion event will be held tomorrow to attract global investment and talents, where the detailed plan of Jiuwei area will also be unveiled.

The name Jiuwei is derived from a fact that Hakka people who had settled in the eastern foothills of Phoenix Mountain since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) called it “Nine (Jiu) villages compose (wei) a town.”

Huangmabu is one of the nine villages, and it is also the only village in Shenzhen that has both a Christian and a Catholic church. The newly planned Jiuwei area will highlight the preserved historical and cultural elements and integrate both the Chinese and Western cultures.

As planned, Jiuwei area, covering an area of nearly 9 square kilometers, is divided into different zones based on functions to become a home mainly to Global 500 companies, international organizations, leading global enterprises, and research and development (R&D) headquarters.

Additionally, Jiuwei area will include facilities for accommodation, business consumption, leisure entertainment, international talent services and so on.

The Jiuwei area has been slated to be one of the important headquarters clusters in Bao’an and Shenzhen.

In the future, the Jiuwei area will not only become a high-level international community but also a gathering place for international economic, cultural and scientific exchanges.

Urban oasis with unique location

The Hangcheng Subdistrict, the location of Jiuwei International Headquarters Area (Jiuwei area), houses Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and the Fuyong Dock.

Hangcheng Subdistrict has been serving as a transportation hub that integrates six types of transportation facilities, namely airport, port, high-speed rail, metro, intercity rail and expressway.

The Jiuwei area features geographic advantages and convenient transportation. It is only 5 kilometers from the Bao’an International Airport and adjacent to the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone.

Recent progress achieved on Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link (or Shenzhong Link) has also made its geographic advantages even more evident as the Eastern Artificial Island of the Shenzhong Link is located at the south of the Bao’an International Airport.

Shenzhong Link, which costs more than 44.69 billion yuan (US$6.38 billion), links the city clusters of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou in the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta to cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in the western part, strengthening the infrastructure connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

To enhance the convenient transportation of the Jiuwei area, more road projects will be initiated this year to further connect with the Jiuwei area’s surrounding expressways as well as Shenzhong Link.

In terms of ecological location, the Jiuwei area is fairly to be deemed as a precious urban oasis as it is located on the east side of Phoenix Mountain and on the shore of Tiegang Reservoir, the largest reservoir in the city.

The fabulous ecological environment supports to turn the blueprint for the development of a garden-style headquarters yard into reality.
